If you are about the go on vacation, for any period of time, it is important to precautions to make sure your home is home and secure before leaving. Taking securing your home before your leave gives you a greater chance of returning to your home in the condition you left it in. Here are some great suggestions on what to do before you leave to keep your home safe.

Try tidying up before you leave. Avoid leaving dirty dishes in the sink and trash in the trash cans in your home. This can attract things like ants and other vermin.

Lock away all your valuables. Let’s say the worst does happen and someone is to break into your home. If your valuables are locked away and hidden they are less likely to be stolen.

Make sure everything is unplugged and/ or turned off. Especially small appliances, like hair dryers, clocks, coffee pot, etc. Not only can this say you a few dollars on your electric bill, but it could also save your home. The last thing you would want to come home to is a house of smoke and ashes.

Make sure all doors and windows are locked and secure. Be sure all windows and blinds are closed.

Do not forget to set your security alarm if you don’t have on I highly recommend looking at home security forum to find the best one for you.

Don’t tell everyone in the neighborhood you are out of town, which could invite a robbery. Only tell a neighbor you trust, have them look over your home while you’re away.
